Bands or no bands

We know that a large number of our members collect at least some aspects of GB postal stationery. This is the place to discuss it, ask questions etc.

Bands or no bands

Post by Ricey57 »

Can anyone tell me the difference between ES112 (10p orange stamp, L86, 1979) and EP129-131 or EP133-134?
They all seem to have stamp L86 and EP129-134 have 1 or 2 phosphor bands.
But does ES112 have any bands?
Any help would be appreciated.

At our meeting on March 22nd, one of our members showed three different items of STO with the 10p orange Machin indicium. None of these had phosphor bands.
Phosphor bands were not printed on Stamped to Order Stationery. On Post Office issues, phosphor bands were printed to one side of the indicium (stamp impression) not on the indicium (stamp impression) itself. An indicium cut out from a post office issues and one from an STO issue would appear identical except for whatever paper the STO happened to be printed on.
